A soldier leaves his country to go on a mission abroad. A String Quartet is buried under the rubble in an explosion. The soldier is killed while on patrol, and will live a mystical experience after his
death.
In 2007, the Bozzini Quartet commissioned a text from Jean-Frédéric Messier, to accompany a performance of Black Angels by composer George Crumb.
Written in 1970, this work is subtitled In tempore belli, which translates as « in time of war ». George Crumb composed Black Angels as a reaction to the Viet Nam war, this being the inspiration for Jean-Frédéric Messier to write his text.
The Black Angel project is a unique opportunity for the Bozzini Quartet and Momentum, to collaborate in a hybrid kind of show, a cross between theatre and musical performance.
