A romantic comedy set in Montreal, Strawberries in January explores the intricacies of relationships among four modern singles. Sophie loves François, François loves Sophie and they plan to marry. But… François meets a mysterious woman and the wedding is off. That mysterious woman is… Lea who has come to Montreal looking for her old friend, Sophie, but while she’s there she is reunited with… Robert whom she met and fell in love with during a passionate one night stand. It's a romantic web of heartstrings aching to be untangled. 

Persephone’s first foray into francophone theatre, the play will be presented in both English and French on different nights— a timely counterpoint to the current political turmoil about the presence of both languages in the province of Quebec. The three francophone actors and one anglophone proudly represent Montreal’s cultural richness. Des fraises en janvier by Governor General's award-winning writer and actor, Évelyne de la Chenelière, translated by accomplished playwright and screenwriter, Morwyn Brebner, has delighted audiences in seven different countries in numerous languages. To the best of our knowledge this is the first time a bilingual cast has alternated French and English performances.
